Consumer Unit Upgrade
"The Breakdown"

Our client approached us to carry out a full electrical test, as the property had not been inspected since they purchased it over 20 years ago.

During the inspection, we identified several serious defects. These included multiple circuits without RCD protection, the use of cable to extend the busbar—which is not compliant—and signs of thermal damage within the existing fuse board.

To bring the installation up to modern standards, we replaced the consumer unit with a brand new 18th Edition board, complete with surge protection and additional capacity for future upgrades such as solar and EV charging.

The result is a safe, fully compliant, and future-ready electrical system, giving the client confidence in both their current setup and any plans moving forward.

The Challenge, The Idea, The End Result

The customer works from home full-time and is heavily reliant on a stable internet connection, making any power outage a major disruption to their day.

Our solution was to provide a portable battery power supply, ensuring their router remained powered even during the planned loss of mains electricity.

During the downtimelasting approximately six hours, the system performed exactly as intended. The customer experienced no interruption to their internet connection, allowing them to continue working seamlessly throughout the day without any downtime.

Installation and Brand

The installation went exactly to plan, with no major issues or faults, ensuring a smooth and efficient process from start to finish.

For this project, we selected Fusebox, a brand known for its reliability, quality, and clean design. The unit offers a seamless, neutral appearance, making it a non-intrusive addition that blends easily into any part of the property while neatly housing all components internally.

Functionally, the system provides individual circuit protection and isolation, meaning that if a fault occurs, it will only affect the specific circuit involved—keeping the rest of the property running without disruption.
